Learn what you need to survive living off the grid, where you can connect with people and how you can prepare yourself for the wilderness.

Living off the grid can be a tough decision for some, but a relief for others. Many people in our society are tired of our government and its inability to get anything done; therefore, they rather find a place off the grid and live only by nature's offerings.

What Do you Need to Survive Living Off The Grid?

The four most important factors to look at when going off the grid are water, food, shelter and protection. If you make sure you have these four things you will be hydrated and kept with good energy. Learn to live without the necessities that the city offers. Make sure you know the essentials of going off the grid, such as: how to start a fire without any matches and in different ways, and how to hunt for animals when you need to eat and there is nothing else available. Having certain skills down are important before making such a drastic change in your life.

After you have the basics down, prepare your survival gear. You can start with a simple survival kit, and that will give you some ideas for a more secure and complete gear in the future. Learning to use a firearm, hunting and fishing techniques are all great ways to start your journey and have a higher chance of catching your prey.

Aside from the gear and the basic knowledge desired to have when going off the grid, a big priority is to train your body physically and mentally. You need to have a strong mind-set to make fast, but smart decisions in an emergency. Maintain a fit body and work everyday for a higher body endurance. A good way to do this is to perform exercises such as hiking, running and back backing; activities you will most likely be doing when living off the grid. Having a high endurance and strong muscles will help you sustain yourself through long periods of time.

Connect with People who are Doing the Same

As well as having the right gear, the knowledge to survive and the guts to go off the grid, it is good to connect with people on the same boat and with the same aspirations. Find people around the country, chat with them, get ideas and work together for a better living off the grid experience. You can meet people who are currently living off the grid, people looking for someone to live off the grid, and people willing to help with land and gear you may need when you are on your adventure.
